I wonder if it will take that long for builders to switch from yellow pages to internet advertising.
I was talking to my General Contractor one day for whom I supervised a subdivision and was trying to sell him on some new innovation in house building and his remark was, “If it were that good, all the contractors would be doing it.”
That’s putting a lot of faith in contractors.
Case in point, you would think that when gypsum board, otherwise known as sheetrock, came on the market contractors would immediately see the advantages and switch out of using plaster and plaster board like what was used on my house built in 1960. But no, it literally took a whole generation of builders to make the swap.
I still run across business owners who use the yellow pages for advertising. They say, “Oh we still get phone calls from it.” But at what cost I must ask. I have a client that spent $50,000 on the yellow pages in 2011 and they aren’t sure they got any business from it. I suggested they spend $5000 a year on SEO and they would get a lot more customers than the yellow pages.
Nobody uses the yellow pages any more. I run into more and more people who, like myself, haven’t touched a physical phone book in years. That trend is only going to continue.
