And what’s more, it only takes a moment to post and you will be like totally optimized. You don’t have to call your webmaster and get him to build you another page and charge you another two hundred bucks. Each WordPress post creates its own page on the internet complete with heading tags for your post title and you can even change the URL to include keywords if your title doesn’t already have any.
Two minutes for a non-techie to create his own page about anything he wants and it’s fully optimized from the get go. How cool is that?
Like Totally Optimized Dude
So for example, if I want to get found by someone using Google to search for “like totally optimized” (not that anybody would) I just need to include that in the page URL, the page title, a paragraph heading, and in the body text, just like I did here. I can also strengthen the optimization by emphasizing the keyword or keyphrase by making it bold because that is a clue to search engines that this is what this post is about. Think of it as the thesis format we learned in college: “Tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you just told them.” By using proper site structure you are telling the search engines like Google what your page is about. If you put something in a heading or make it bold you are teaching Google why your page is relevant to someone searching for that term. Remember, Google made its fortune and dominates the market because they won the relevancy wars in the early days of search engines. In other words, they did the best job of any search engine in returning results relevant to what the person is actually searching for. It’s still the same today. Google search is all about finding the most relevant webpage for what a person is searching for so you want to teach Google a thing or two about the relevancy of your content.
According to Google, this page right here is the #1 most relevant page out of gazillions on the internet for the search term “like totally optimized.” How do I know? It ranked #1 within days of me posting this. That’s out of two and a half million web pages with any of those words in it and 168 pages on the internet that had that exact phrase. It even ranked above totallyoptimized.com, which is hard to do considering they have two of those words in their domain name. Incidentally, my home page ranked #2 for the exact phrase since my 5 most recent posts show there up as excerpts and this page ranks #17 for “totally optimized” (not exact match).
Addendum: Three Months Later (2/12/13)
It’s been three months since I wrote the post above and now Kirbyworks SEO not only ranks #1 for “like totally optimized,” without the quotation marks use in the search term so it is not an exact match, but I also rank #2 and #3 and #1, #2, #3, and #4 for “like totally optimized” as an exact match phrase. How this can be is explained better here.
Addendum: Seven Months Later (6/26/13) Re: “Totally Optimized”
OK I know nobody is searching for “like totally optimized” but somebody might be searching for “totally optimized”, and this article ranks #2 behind totallyoptimized.com and ahead of totallyoptimizedprojects.com Not bad for an hour’s work.
